I took Harvey to Alexandria this afternoon to meet up with my friend Sarah and her husband Desh at a frozen custard place called Dairy Godmother. They have special dog ice cream, which Harvey loved! As Desh and I were standing in line, several men in suits and earpieces entered the store, followed by miliary police in full body armor. As we exited with our custards, in walked President Obama and his daughters! It was quite a scene - big black SUVs lining the street, a swarm of photographers, and a large crowd gathering to catch a glimpse of the president. At one point, Harvey jumped up on a stiff-looking Secret Service agent, who surprisingly didn’t seem to mind. I tried to take a picture, but right as the Obamas were leaving the shop Harvey decided to start misbehaving and growling at another dog (I guess he didn’t want to share his banana ice cream), so I missed the photo-op. Oh well, this AP photo will have to do. Still, it was pretty cool to be chowing down on delicious frozen custard and trying to keep my dog from jumping on the president. If only Bo had been there, too!
